Producer

Mong Nwet farm is a proud member of the Indigo Mountain cooperative since 2019, a pioneering initiative dedicated to introducing coffee cultivation in regions where it was previously unknown. The cooperative’s mission is to offer local farmers a promising alternative to poppy farming, encouraging them to stay on their land by providing training, support, and market access. The project faces challenges, including farmer migration, but the Pa O community has embraced coffee growing as a new path forward.

Farm & Origin

Situated slightly lower than Bat Sawk in Myanmar’s highlands, Mong Nwet village is predominantly inhabited by the Pa O ethnic minority. Alongside coffee, farmers diversify with avocado, ginger, turmeric, and cheroot leaf cultivation. This multi-crop approach reflects a strong connection to the land and local traditions.

Process

Coffee cherries are handpicked by members of the Hopong community at dawn, ensuring optimal ripeness. Upon delivery to the Hopong drying stations, cherries are carefully sorted to about 95% maturity, then arranged on raised beds for slow, natural sun drying. Depending on weather, drying lasts between 13 and 17 days. Harvests are separated by day and fully traceable, guaranteeing quality and transparency.

Cup Profile

This coffee reveals a refined and complex cup, where luscious plum and tangy tamarind mingle with subtle black tea notes. The naturally sweet, smooth body offers a balanced and vibrant experience, showcasing the unique terroir of Myanmar’s emerging coffee regions and the dedication of its farmers.

Minimum 7 days resting period after roasting date.
We strive to provide coffee that’s both fresh and properly rested, so it’s ready to enjoy as soon as it arrives. Typically, the coffee we ship is between 1 to 15 days old. If you love ultra-fresh beans, just mention it in the order notes at checkout. Our coffee reaches peak flavor between 1 to 8 weeks after roasting, but when vacuum-sealed or frozen, it can stay delicious for 3 months or longer.
