The tea is grown in Doi Mae Salong, northern Thailand. In a land conducive to the cultivation of tea trees, at altitudes between 1200 and 1400 meters. Ruan Zhi Oolong No. 17 tea is a variety of tea originating from Taiwan TRES (Tea Researcha and Extension Station).
On her plantation, Mrs. Sumalee is helped by her husband, her 2 daughters and a handful of trainees recruited from the surrounding villages of the indigenous hill tribes of the kingdom of Lana (northern Thailand). The tea leaves are picked manually before undergoing semi-oxidation, this type of treatment gives the tea leaves a dark green color and brings particular aromas. They are then carefully rolled into small balls (pearls) to be dried on round bamboo trays.
Dipped in hot water, the beautiful rolled leaf unfolds to its full size in less than a minute. The resulting cup is clear and amber in color, smooth yet rich in aroma, with a velvety sweetness and a charming floral note. Just like other high-quality Oolong teas, Ruan Zhi Oolong No. 17 is also suitable for the traditional Chinese Gong Fu Cha tea ceremony. Considered a long-keeping tea, Oolong is also the only tea that can be infused several times.
Recipe:
Pour 200ml of hot water at +-90°C (or 1 minute after boiling) into a cup containing 3 grams of tea pearls and leave to infuse for 3 minutes. Enjoy!
