Banka Farm and their washing station are based in Menglian Dai, Lahu and Va Autonomous County, Yunnan and are named after the two adjacent villages (Banka Yi and Banka Er) where the coffee is harvested.
As an export partner and pioneer in the specialty coffee sector in Menglian County, Yunnan Coffee Traders (YCT) manages part of the Banka farm with around 100 hectares of land as well as a hulling machine. He set up one of the region’s first optical sorters, experimented with coffee processing methods such as yeast fermentation, and cultivated new varieties of coffee such as Pacamara and Bourbon Jaune. YCT is therefore very active in research, experimentation and training in the field of specialty coffee in this region of China.
Our importer Indochina works in partnership with YCT, since 2016, he began by importing coffees to the United Kingdom.
The coffee cherries are handpicked and then passed through the optical sorter to remove overripe cherries, underripe cherries and foreign elements. Then the coffee cherries are spread out and dried on raised beds. Then the dried cherries are shelled to remove the outer layers of fruit before handsorting, grading and bagging.
